Common questions
How do I find a lawyer?
Search by your problem, a town or a district on the home page, or under Get help, Find a lawyer. Every listed lawyer has been verified from their current practising certificate, and anyone can confirm a verification ID under “Check a lawyer”.
How do I book a consultation?
Open a lawyer's profile and send a request, choosing chat, phone, video, an appointment or document review, and your preferred time. When the lawyer accepts, they confirm the time; you both get reminders and can save it to your phone calendar. Need help now? Use “Talk now” to reach an online lawyer.
How do voice and video calls work?
Once a lawyer accepts your case, either of you can start a voice or video call from the case messages and the other presses Join. Calls open in your browser through Jitsi Meet, a free video service; nothing to install. The first person in may be asked to sign in once with Google, Facebook or GitHub to open the room (lawyers usually do this); the other person then joins without signing in. If you see “Waiting for the host”, wait a moment for your lawyer. MiLAWYER does not record calls.
How do I pay my lawyer?
Directly, the way you agree with them: mobile money, bank transfer or cash. Each lawyer shows how they like to be paid. MiLAWYER takes nothing from legal fees.
What does MiLAWYER cost?
Nothing, if you need legal help: joining, contacting lawyers, posting your case, templates and Tima are free. You pay your lawyer directly. Lawyers use the MiLAWYER Office free too. There are no subscriptions: the only thing you can pay MiLAWYER for is more Tima credits, as you go. If you can't afford a lawyer, apply for pro bono help.
How do I follow my court case?
Use the Court tracker. You and your lawyer share one private record of court dates, the stage the case has reached and what happened at each sitting, with reminders before every date.
Who can see my case?
Only you and your lawyer. Court records, messages and documents are private to the people on them. Reminders never show names. MiLAWYER staff only look at a case if you ask us to review it or we receive a report.

Is Tima a lawyer?
No. Tima gives general legal information and helps you find the right kind of lawyer. For advice on your situation, speak with a verified lawyer.
