Section 13, The Local Government Act, 2004

(1) There shall be a Deputy Chairperson for each localcouncil, elected by a simple majority of all the Councillors from among the elected Councillors. (2) The Deputy Chairperson shall, subject to this Act, hold office for four years. (3) The Deputy Chairperson shall assist the Chairperson in the performance of his functions and act in the absence of the Chairperson. (4) Section 13 shall apply with such modification as may be necessary to the removal from office of a Deputy Chairperson.
