Section 5: For carrying out its general objects the College shall have

(a) to institute courses leading to degrees, diplomas and other academic awards; (b) to provide suitable instruction, and hold examinations, for and grant degrees, diplomas and other academic dis tinctions to persons who ()) have successfully pursued any course of prescribed by the College; Study (i) have carried on research in the College under sucn conditions as may be laid down in the Statutes; (c) to confer honorary degrees or other distinctions in the manner and under such conditiong as may be laid down 1n the Statutes; No. 18 Njala University College 1964 (d) to provide intensive specialised courses of instruction for groups of workers and other adults who are not degree or diploma students of the College: (e) to provide for research and for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge and for University Extensionprogrammes; () to institute teaching and research posts required by the College and to appoint persons to such posts; (g) to create administrative and other necessary non-acade mic posts and make appointments thereto; (h) to institute such scholarships, fellowships and award such prizes as may be prescribed in the Statutes; () to provide, maintain, supervise and control residential accommodation for students, and employees of the College: i) to demand and receive from any student or any other person attending the College for the purpose of instruc tion such fees and other charges as may be prescribed by the College; (k) to act in conjunction with other educationa l institutions and authorities in such manner and for such purpose as may be determined jointly by the College and the other institutions and authorities concerned; () to do all acts or things, whether or not incidental to the foregoing powers, as may advance the objects of the College.
