Section 24, The Universities Act, 2005

(1) The Vice-Chancellor and Principal or, in his absence,the Pro Vice-Chancellor shall preside at meetings of the Senate. (2) If for any meeting of the Senate, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal and Pro Vice-Chancellor are absent, a Deputy Vice- Chancellor shall preside. (3) In the absence, however, of all the officers referred to in subsections (l) and (2), the members shall appoint a Chairman from among themselves, preferably, not below the rank of associate professor.
