Section 163, The Criminal Procedure Act, 2024

The Registrar or other officer of the Court shall, where in atrial by Judge sitting with assessors or sitting alone, the defendant is found guilty or the defendant pleads guilty, ask the defendant whether he has anything to say as to why sentence should not be passed upon him according to law: Provided that the omission so to ask him shall have no effect on the validity of the proceedings.
