Section 19, The National Commission for Privatisation Act, 2002

The purposes to be served by the divestiture of public enterprises under this Act are— (a) to enable the public sector to focus on the efficient delivery of basic services to the poor, especially, in the rural areas; (b) to allow wider private sector participation and thereby enhance economic opportunities, increase economic growth and provide jobs to address the unemployment in the country; and (c) to remove the fiscal burden imposed by non-performing public enterprises on the government budget.
