Section 8: It shall be the duty of the Committee~

(a) (i) to review and consider annually a general programme of the research to be conducted by the Institute as prepared by the Director and to approve such programme; (ii) before approving any programme to consider any modifications which may be requested by the Governor and the Officers Administering the Governments of the Gold Coast, Sierra Leone and the Gambia and to include in such programme any of such modifications as the Committee may think fit; (b) to arrange for the preparation annually by the Director of a statement of the expenditure necessary to carry out the approved programme; (c) to consider matters relating to the provision of advice on trypanosomiasis; (d) to receive reports from the Director of the progress of the work of the Institute and the expenditure and liabilities West African Institute for Trypanosomiasis [Cap. 156 incurred, to make such observations thereon as they rnay think fit and to arrange for the transmission of such reports and observations, if any, to the Secretary of State, the Governor and to the Officers Administering the Governments of the Gold Coast, Sierra Leone and the Gambia respectively; (e) to advise the Director on any matter on which advice may be sought; (f) subject to any direction of the Secretary of State of a general character to appoint, and to fix the salaries and terms of appointment of, and to dismiss servants of the Institute and any servant the Committee may think fit to employ.
