Section 84, Cap 196

The holder of a prospecting right in respect of any open Open shafts,shaft made by him, and the lessee of a mining lease, and the ~!~~e~ be holder of a mining right or exclusive prospecting licence and the applicant for a mining lease or a mining right to whom permission to mine has been granted under section 23, on the area of whose lease, right or licence or prospecting licence or right any open shaft or open cast exists, shall make and maintain sufficient fences or other safeguards for the protection of man and beast, and shall fill in any disused shaft which is within fifty yards of any public road or footpath, or elsewhere if required by the Chief Inspector of Mines.
