(1) The Chief Medical Examiner shall be the custodian ofthe records of deaths and shall make available, upon written request,
copies of those records not declared confidential in section 18.
(2) The Chief Medical Examiner shall, in the exercise of
his responsibilities, compile and preserve records and data relating
to criminal prosecution, public health, public safety and vital statistics.
